LH Test (Luteinizing Hormone)
A core hormone in ovulation and testosterone production, measured directly.
LH is the signal hormone: in women it triggers ovulation, in men it tells the testes to produce testosterone. When something is off in either system, LH is one of the first numbers worth seeing.
What it tells you: whether the pituitary is signaling normally. In women, LH read alongside FSH helps explain irregular cycles, suspected PCOS, or perimenopause. In men, LH separates a testicular cause from a pituitary one when testosterone is low, which changes what happens next.
Who orders it: women with irregular or absent cycles, people evaluating fertility, men with low testosterone results who need to know why, and anyone whose provider asked for the level.
How it works: order online, walk in, about five minutes. Results usually in 1-2 business days.
Fasting: not required. Women tracking a cycle should ask their provider which day to draw.
